The French way is the traditional way of the Camino de Santiago, which is the most famous way in the world. This is the main and most illustrated way. The route is challenging and fascinating for the pilgrim / modern hiker. The French road begins in the French region of France in the enchanting town of Saint-Jean-Fayde de Port through the mountainous Spanish Pyrenees that rise to the height of 1700, continuing through the forests in a historic and richly cultural area. Castile and Leon to the Leon Mountains and pass through the crops of Rioja to the Navarra region to the green and fertile areas of the Galicia region of northwestern Spain, where the route ends at the magnificent cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the varied route including villages, towns, ancient buildings, and large stone farms. Variety as well as the different cultures and foods along the way invite a wonderful human experience to inner and median, interpersonal and personal encounters.
Our route starts in the city of Saria and ends in the beautiful Cathedral of Santiago. A total of 115 kilometers passing through a historic country road dotted with Romanesque churches, serene forests, farmland and dormant villages in the green spaces of Galicia. The route includes ups and downs that can be viewed as both a physical and mental challenge, and walking can be physically demanding and requires a reasonable level of fitness. There is immense cultural value and a great sense of achievement.
Trip Plan:
Day 1: Ben Gurion Airport - Madrid - Santiago de Compostela
Independent arrival to the city of Santiago de Compostela - the starting point
Day 2: Serria to Portomarin - 23 km (8 hours walk)
The first day for the start of our camino. After all the preparations and preparations we will leave the bag at the hotel reception and set off following the yellow arrow - BUEN CAMINO !!!! Expect a day of quiet hiking in shady oak forest and beautiful villages on quiet country roads. Through green slopes we climbed moderate slopes and crossed the village of Barbados with the beautiful Romanesque church. Later on arriving in Portomarin you can relax on one of the terraces in the main square and enjoy the view.
Day 3: Portomarine to Lestedo - 20 km (7 hours walk)
After getting organized and having breakfast, we will leave again following the yellow arrow. At the exit from the town the road crosses the Mino River and climbs up the mountain towards the laid-back village of Gunzer. On the way we will pass in the beautiful Romanesque Santa Maria church. The walk in the green spaces of the Galicia brings us to small, cheerful local villages.
Day 4: Lestedo to Mlida - 19 km (7 hours walk)
After breakfast, we set off for another day amid green meadows and expanses. Today the road continues downhill as we pass the charming villages of Casanova and Boriero. Through forests, villages and Galician meadows, we arrive at a birth town that serves as a meeting place for pilgrims arriving from other trails. The city has plenty of restaurants and bars that offer great local food and invite us to a culinary experience.
Day 5: From Birth to Arzoa - 19 km (5.5 hours walking)
After getting ready and having breakfast we will have another wonderful day in the green of Galicia. We will cross some forests and pass through the village of Buanta where we will visit the church of Santiago. Later we will cross the medieval Rivdisso del Baccio and the Izo River, and finally we will reach Arzoa, a small town with two beautiful churches that we can visit, and plenty of good bars and restaurants.
Day 6: From Marzoa to or Pedroso - 19km (5.5 hours walk)
This stretch of road passes through shady forests and along streams and dormant villages. We will take the time to visit the Santa Irena Chapel with Santiago's special statues. The rest of the road to O PEDRUZO (O PEDRUZO) passes through quiet, rural roads. This is our last point before Santiago.
Day 7: O Pedro Rodriguez to Santiago de Compostela - 20 km (6 hours walk)
You're almost there! The next step in this day will be LAVACOLA where many pilgrims stop to wash their feet in the river before entering the city. Further down the road you will be brought to the Eucalyptus trees to the MONTE DE GUZO - the joyous mountain, from which you can overlook the long-sought-after destination SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA and see the tip of the cathedral spire. At the entrance to the city you can admire the rich architecture, savor the wonderful atmosphere and witness one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites - Compostela de Santiago.
Day 8: Santiago de Compostela - Madrid - Ben Gurion Airport
After getting organized and having breakfast, we said goodbye to the group and women headed home full of life experiences.
