Primitivo - Obeido for logo - track
Camino Primitivo is one of the most challenging and beautiful trails among the trails. It goes from the province of Asturias through the Galician region to Santiago de Compostela. The name Primitivo derives from the fact that this is the first way King Alfonso II and his entourage went in the ninth century to visit the tomb of the apostle.
Our route starts in the city of Oviedo and ends in the city of Logo and is about 215 kilometers long. This is the first part of the Camino Primitivo, the original way. The main features that characterize the road are the challenges of the route and the beauty of the environment. The route of the road is varied and changes at every stage, the road crosses dozens of forests, rivers, streams, meadows, valleys, mountains and villages, especially in the historical part. Most of the road passes through nature and fortunately there is very little connection with traffic routes.
One of the most notable advantages of this route is the number of walkers. The trail still maintains solidity, but on the other hand is also not completely isolated.
Route details:
Day 1: Arrival in Oviedo
We will meet at Asturias Airport and from there we will take a concentrated shuttle to Oviedo, the starting point of the Camino Primitivo. The city is characterized by an amazing historical quarter and we can wander through it and discover the many sculptures, the squares with the lively bars and cafes and also the magnificent cathedral of King Alfonso. Next we will stop to sample the local cider which is Oviedo's specialty and eat at one of the local restaurants serving plenty of typical Asturian dishes.
Day 2: Oviedo to Grado (25 km)
Our day begins at the El Salvadoran Cathedral and after we leave the city we turn west according to the arrow marking. From here we will continue and descend towards Punta de Galgos. Walking in a pleasant rural setting crosses forests and small village meadows with ups and downs. A beautiful walking path along the Nora River will lead us to the charming village of Escamplero and further walking along the Nalon River will lead it to the town of Grado.
Day 3: Grado Lasals (22 km)
We start the day with a difficult ascent to Alto del Fresno (about 5 km), and then we can enjoy a moderate and pleasant hike through farmland and hills to the Narca Valley where Cornelia and its magnificent monastery San Salvador which welcomes the walkers. From there we will follow the marked route Of the camino climbing towards Sals.
Day 4: Sals to Tinau (20 km)
The challenging day ahead is difficult and not because of its length (it is actually shorter), but because it is constantly climbing (an ascent of almost 800 meters). Fortunately, most of the ascent is at the beginning and passes through forests of oak and chestnut trees with stunning views. Later we will reach La Espina and enter an area with strong Asturian character and traditions.
Day 5: Tinao to Paula de Ainda (30 km)
The view that will be revealed to us after the climb at the exit from Tinau is one of the most beautiful that will be discovered for the primitive, the animal, plant and ecological wealth thanks to which the Camino primitive has become one of the most successful hiking trails will be revealed to us in its glory. The day is full of frequent ascents and descents and at the end we reach the charming town of Paula de Ainda.
Day 6: Paula de Ainda in Raduccado (17.5 km)
The West Asturias Mountains are the glorious backdrop to our stage today that begins with an ascent of almost 600 meters and reaches the summit of Puerto del Paolo. After that we will descend on a medieval road known as the "Hospital Road", we will pass through some forests and reach the calm Brochado.
Day 7: Barduchado to the Grandes de Salima (21 km)
After breakfast we will set off following the yellow arrow for one of the most difficult but also the most rewarding days of the trail. We will start climbing to Lake Salima at an altitude of 1100 meters where we will be greeted by spectacular views of the Nabia River and the mountains that surround it. From there on a steep descent of 7 kilometers and a breathtaking view we will cross the dam and make our way to the Grandes de Salima.
Day 8: Grandes de Salima to Ponsgarda (26 km)
We will reach the beautiful views of the Cantabrian Mountains after climbing the steep ascent to El Akbo (1050 m). It's time to say goodbye to the Asturian region and say goodbye to the land of the Celts - Galicia! After passing through the mountain villages of Kabria, Pontia and Barbito we will reach Ponsgarda which is known for the miracle fountain of the Holy Apostle Jacob, in which he turned the injection water into fresh milk for an impoverished widow and her children.
Day 9: Ponsgrad Lao Cadbo in Elira (24 km)
After a night's rest and breakfast we will leave Ponsgarda following the yellow arrow marking. Further down the road we will reach the de Monto Hospital which sits on top of the hill, it is currently in ruins but was among the last to close, and was probably the most important of all the Camino trails in Galicia. Further on the road to La Cadbo we will pass some more strange villages of local historical importance in which Alfonso II fought in the Moorish army.
Day 10: Or Cadbo in Elira for the logo (31 km)
The last day of our journey is very long but it passes through convenient routes and small and special villages. One of them is Predabella which retains much of its original character in buildings called Paseos (primitive enclosed apartments) and other interesting buildings. After Castrobrada we will pass another abandoned village nestled in a beautiful landscape, Sotomaril and cross more agricultural lands where we can see the locals working in them like in ancient times, finally we reach "Losos Augusti" or as it is called today, Logo, the oldest city in the region of Galicia! The only city in Europe surrounded entirely by Roman walls.
Day 11: Logo
After breakfast we will say goodbye to the group as we take with us many memories of life and an unforgettable experience.
